This week on Scratching Sydney’s Surface, we took a look at a hoaxer by the name of Arthur Orton alias Tom Castro, a pretender to the fortune and title of Roger Tichborne, and the fabulist Henri Louis Grien alias Louis de Rougemont.
Alas! I don’t have time to update the blog post just yet, so keep posted so to speak. But there is plenty of material online to whet your appetite:
Tichborne Claimant – http://www3.hants.gov.uk/museum/community-history/tichborne-claimant.htm
Louis de Rougemont: http://www.abc.net.au/rn/bookshow/stories/2006/1679052.htm
And there is a book by Rod Howard, titled The Fabulist: http://www.rodhoward.com.au
You can even read one of de Rougemont’s tall tales first hand: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/1194
